Tying Flies

Postby Prybis » Dec Mon 25, 2017 3:53 pm

I have been tying flies this month to get ready for next year. I came across a new pattern at the International Fly Tying Symposium in November. Rich Strolis was tying his Silly Rabbit Streamer and it looked simple enough. I bought a couple to use for reference so I could get my to closely match his. I think I did a good job.

After tying these I thought I could make a couple modifications to get a mini sculpin patter. I tied the rabbit strip fur facing hook point since it will ride hook point up. Swapped out the Fish mask for a mini sculpin helmet. I believe these will be real good on the Smallmouth bass.

Last night I tied up some black mini sculpins and a few minnow fry.

I have also tied up some floating inch worms using 1/16 inch round foam and ostrich herl for legs. Along with a few greenie weenies and San Juan worms. I have more patterns to tie.

It is also going to be show season so I may pick up a few more new patterns. I will be tying at the Fly Show in Fort Wayne at the Project Healing Waters Table. I am looking forward to trying these out next year.

Was charmed to learn that the pygmies of the Ituri forest cure eye infections by urinating in the bad eye(Trout Madness,1960).
