I checked Lake of the Woods and Potato Creek...LOTW was in much better shape than Pot Creek! There was an old guy spudding at the public access at LOTW and he spudded two spots and had about 1" of good clear ice but got off immediately. The entire lake was frozen but he said he has not seen anybody on the main lake yet. That lake is always slow to freeze compared to many other local lakes. With ALL the rain we got over night and the ridiculously warm temps I wouldn't be surprised if there is open water on the lake again. Once that lake opens up it doesn't take long for the ice to come off since there really isn't any hidden bays other than a few shallow channels.
Potato Creek was a a totally different story! I didn't even bother spudding because there was a significant amount of open water and the ice it had was very poor looking snow ice. There were hundreds of ducks and geese keeping it open too.
I doubt if either of these bodies of water will achieve "fishable" ice status for the rest of the season especially if the 16 day forecast is anywhere close
! Time to get the boat ready
