baby owl

we saw this owl in a pine tree in the side yard today,was able to get 6 ft close and took some pics,I think its a very young bird,not sure what kind,any ideas

Awesome photo op.
IMHO I would say it is an immature Great Grey or a Short Ear. Hard to tell without some more mature markings. It is a bit too far south to be a grey but the way birds move around its hard to say. But still young and already that bulky I have to go with the Great Grey Owl.

I was thinking a Barred owl without seeing any pics on the internet.I just sent some pics to the DNR Wildlife Biologist for our area.

I just looked at some owl pics,now I think its a Great Horned owl,didnt seem to look like a Barred owl.Cant wait to see what she says.
