This also goes for the guys from up in northern Indiana that come down here to fish on the ice. My cousin works at Shakamak SP and we had a long conversation about fishing this past fall. He was telling me about all the guys from up north that have gone through the ice at Shakamak. One guy went in, went back to his hotel for fresh clothes, and went in again before giving it up! He also told me about numerous rescues that have taken place. I guess we never hear about them because miraculously, no one died.
It wouldn't surprise me a bit if there's guys on the ice right now out at the park. It's only a matter of time before the luck wears out. I think maybe guys from up north don't realize how big this state is and how different the weather can be from end to end? Hell, I can be in Kentucky in less than 2 hours from where I live here in the Shakamak area.
I know some will take this as a guy trying to protect his local fishing holes, but that's not the case. I have always gladly helped with fishing reports and figure the more people that come here to fish, the better it is for our local economy. I just don't want anyone else dieing over some fish!
It's 54 and sunny here today, gonna be 50+ and rain tomorrow.....stay off the ice!
