New Fishfinder

Postby Heatman » Apr Sat 04, 2015 5:17 pm

I bought another 798 a couple weeks ago when Gander Mountain had them on sale for $499. Put one on the front of the boat last year and really liked it.

Now if I can just get the new transducer cable fished up to the helm I will be in good shape. Only access on my Tacker V-18 comb is the one at the throttle/shifter control. Ended up cutting old cable at transducer taped new cable to it and keeps hanging up about 3 feet in!!!!

Anyone got any tricks? I even added a bit of grease to it and no go! Times like this I miss the pontoon, would be about an hour job on it.

I understand your frustration. After buying a new locater, I just hate running the new cable's and mounting. Have you tried a fish tape that electricians use to run wire through conduit? That has worked a lot for me.
Fisherman's Prayer
I pray that I may live to fish
Until my dying day
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep,
That in His mercy I be Judged
BIG ENOUGH TO KEEP.

Yep tried a fish tape. There is a turn or something in there it doesn't want to go thru either. I do HVAC work so I have fished a few wires up walls but this is a PITA! why they don't have move panels to access I don't understand. I have a rod locker at the top of the gunnel and a a side storage compartment and no access at either!

I would call a tracker dealer and find out the skinny on that.

Good advise. Had to go to the dealer anyway today. One of my trolling motor batteries went bad. 1st time dealing with them on a warranty issue and glad to say they were great! Replaced the 10 month old battery free of charge!

The owner and his son the service/parts manager were helping me out. Asked them about the issue I was having getting the transducer wire ran. They told me how to remove the rear side panel. There are screws there, just a bit hard to find as they are buried in the carpet. Still wasn't real easy with all that foam in there but got it done.

Thanks to Brownies Marine for their help!

I bought the same unit that you did. I've gotten everything installed except the transducer. Hopefully that will be complete in the next day or 2.
Work is for people who don't know how to fish!
