Crossroads Fishing Tourney wrap up

Postby Crappie yaker » Apr Sun 27, 2014 1:23 pm

It was a beautiful spring day for Central Indiana Kayak Anglers second kayak fishing tournament and benefit for Heroes on the Water. We like to think it was redemption for our tournament last fall, which was hit hard with thunderstorms and heavy rain. A total of 47 anglers from all corners of Indiana and as far away as Chicago came to try their luck at Eagle Creek Reservoir in Indianapolis. In total, we were able to raise $1000 for our local chapter of Heroes on the water. While the fish weren't exactly cooperative, there were some decent numbers at the top of the leaderboard in the bass division.

1. Cody Slavens 43 1/2"
2. Dan Sutton 40 1/2"
3. Keenan Chamberlain 36"
4. Tom Moore 25 3/4"
5. Jesse Wade 17 1/2"
6. Mark Scott 14 3/4"

Jesse Wade also took home $135 as the winner of the big bass pot.

It only took 2 species to take home the prize in the "most species" division, and Bob Deitch went home as the winner. Did we mention the fish weren't very cooperative?

We would like to thank all of the participants and volunteers for coming out to support our local chapter of Heroes on the Water. Also, a huge thank you to our sponsors who provided a ton of great prizes for us to give away. Without them, it would not be possible to organize an event such as this. Sailboats, Inc: Fun Runners, Hobie, South Bend, Yak Gear, Temple Fork Outfitters, Yak Attack, G&G Bait Company, Schwartz Bait and Tackle, HOOK1, and Yak Angler.

It was my first tournament and what a great experience. Was run really well and was cool to see so many people there. Had a great time fishing even though I hooked a few that I never got in the boat. Oh well, that's fishing. Great eating lunch and getting to know some great people and fellow anglers after the tournament as well. Hope to see everyone again on the 17th at Morse.
