Steelhead run

Postby zseiler13 » Nov Thu 09, 2017 12:00 am

I have been out to the mc pier a few times in the last week and caught a few lakers but was hoping to see some fresh steelies coming in. I only saw one caught. Before the steelhead run starts, do they stage in the harbor for a little while first or do they just move right through to the creek?

A lot of people were using blade baits but I didn't have any. Any flashy spoon seemed to work though.

I drove by this morning and the lake was nasty. It would be hard to fish in those conditions. On a side note, any word on the steelhead? Are they still in the lake or starting to come in?

They are trickling in for sure. Not a lot though. From everything I've read it's still a touch early. A couple weeks and they will be moving up in good numbers... hopefully. I'm getting really stir crazy. Lol.

So is there ever a good time to pier fish for the winter run steelhead or do they just move right through to the creeks.

Lol. I believe they stage first, at the mouth. Maybe a couple days, then go in when the time is right; rainfall, snow whatever

So is there a sweet spot on the peir? Near the mouth, 1/2 way down, at the neck down at the channel or what? Why is it your favorite?
