At the Y today .... it hit like a Steelhead

Postby Maxstachio » Nov Tue 14, 2017 4:45 pm

At the Y today. Caught a handful of bass and this guy. He hit and fought like a fresh steelie. Only the second one I've seen caught out of the creeks. Didn't see any movement. Checked a couple of spots on salt and nothing. Ran over and checked a few spots o trail .... nothing.

Very nice. I used to see pike get caught on little call in the swampy area years ago. I still see a few a year by the elementary school. I have only ever had 1 that I know for sure on in the creeks.

That's the swampy area I was referring to.

Congratulations! I hope you kept it and ate him up!

I ate my first pike this fall when a friend caught one on a spinner while casting for salmon. DELICIOUS! To me it tasted just like King Crab after I pan fried it in some butter. He tells me if I fish the Little Cal in the summer I can have all the pike I want. I look forward to it.

Google the 5 piece method to filet it out to avoid the many and infamous pin/Y bones.

I have only eaten and therefore cleaned one fish and did pretty good at the method on my first attempt but I look forward to getting more practice fileting them next summer. Enjoy!

You ever see any sizeable fish? Or just dinks?
