New from Danville

Postby blackhawk375 » Sep Wed 27, 2017 11:28 am

I am a recently retired firefighter due to a heart attack. I am 42 years old and have been a casual fisherman most of my life. It is my favorite hobby and what I love to do when I need to relax. I have recently started crappie fishing once a week with my dad and my uncle. I had mostly just fished for large mouth, catfish, and blue gill until now. I am truly loving the challenge of crappie fishing. We have been very successful and all have freezers full of crappie filets. My uncle has taught me A LOT about jig fishing for crappie. We have been going to Raccoon and Cataract every Thursday for the past 6 weeks. God has blessed me with a wonderful wife and we have 4 kids and a grandson. My other hobbies are golf and video games. I also do IT work from home 4 days a week. I'm looking for some decent spots to fish close to home in Danville if anyone has any recommendations. I moved her 2 years ago and haven't had much luck finding anything without a no trespassing sign.

Your closest place with good crappie fishing from shore would be Eagle Creek. Probably along the rocks and bridge at 56th street would work. Also, north side of 56th St on the west end of the bridge, there is a small parking lot that will let you access the reservoir from that side. I don't think they will let you fish the piers by Ricks Boatyard café anymore, but that was excellent fishing years ago. You might find some areas just north of the café, if there is any access available. I haven't fished Eagle creek for 15 years, but used to get there almost every week and the fishing was excellent.
