Was able to get out for a few hours yesterday at a pond between Martinsville and Morgantown and found 7 inches of solid ice. I have fished this pond before, but never through the ice. It is about 2 1/2 acres and was built only 5 years ago by damming up a creek in the middle of the woods. Nearly all of the trees and brush was left standing in the pond. While that makes it scenic, I also found out that it makes it difficult to fish with 2lb test line. I did manage to catch 8 smallish gills (6 inch avg) and lost a couple jigs and fish in the timber. There is a 6 acre pond on the same property that we caught a few 4 to 7 pound bass out of this summer that I will try next time. Much of the timber, but not all, was removed from it.

So true, fishlips.

Sorry I couldn't I get together with you guys on Saturday, Patrick. Good luck on your trip up north and don't ask for the Fireball key too many times!! Hopefully the ice hangs around until you guys get back and we can still get together for a trip or two!!
